For Topps Art Director Adam Schwartz, Bowman is never static. The challenge each year is to raise the bar in a way that feels true to the brand, while still delivering some fresh surprises.

That philosophy guided the creative process for 2026 Bowman Baseball from the very beginning, shaping everything from the base card design to the most intricate inserts. “Our main objective is to always push the designs further from the previous year,” Schwartz says.

2026 Bowman Baseball evolves a classic design while staying true to the brand’s roots. Featuring nostalgic elements like the 1989 Packfractor, returning inserts like Bowman Sterling, and new concepts like Patchwork, the set blends innovation with tradition while keeping the spotlight firmly on MLB prospects.

Blending Bowman’s Past with Modern Style

This year’s product leans into both nostalgia and innovation, connecting the past with the present in a way that feels distinctly Bowman. “I think people are going to really love the new Packfractor that has the 1989 Bowman pack in the background behind the player image,” Schwartz says.

The inclusion of the 1989 pack grounds today’s prospects in the history of the brand, giving the card an extra layer of meaning. “We also added the Bowman Sterling insert back to the project,” Schwartz explains. “I think that is another favorite that I designed this year.”

Schwartz highlights the depth and collaboration that define this year’s insert lineup. “There are many that I’m a big fan of this year,” he says. “The Bowman Scouts Top 100 design that I worked on is one. The Power Chords design that Brady Carlson designed is great too. It’s a guitar with flames.”

The concept is bold and energetic, bringing a different kind of visual language to the set. “Electric Sluggers is another one of my favorites designed by Steve Mihalko, with electricity all around the player,” Schwartz says.

Each insert introduces a distinct identity, but all of them share the same goal of elevating the player and creating a memorable visual experience.

Designing Around the Player Moment

The focus on the player remains central to every Bowman design decision. Bowman cards are often tied to a player’s first major appearance in The Hobby, and the design has to support that moment.

“If the card is heavily themed and the design is busy, we want the player to look like a superhero on the card so that they are still the main focus,” Schwartz explains. It’s a careful balance between creativity and restraint. No matter how bold the concept becomes, the player is always positioned at the center of the story.

That same mindset carries into the parallels, where even subtle variations are given purpose. This year introduces a concept that connects directly to the experience of the game itself.

“A new parallel that I’m excited about is the pattern parallel that is part of the base set,” Schwartz explains. “It is meant to look like a scoring sheet for the people who score the game while they are at the game.”

Evolving Concepts and Finishing Touches

Some of the most compelling designs in 2026 Bowman Baseball came about slowly, growing from early ideas into fully realized concepts. One of the most notable examples is a brand new subset that blends design with memorabilia.

Patchwork is a new subset to this year’s program, designed by Brady Carlson,” Schwartz explains. “The background of the card is a collage of patches that we have in-house that are unique to each player featured. For instance, Ohtani’s will have his Gold Logoman patch featured.” By incorporating real, player specific elements, the design creates a deeper connection between the card and the athlete it represents.

At the same time, Bowman continues to build on ideas that have already proven successful. “I think the Crystalized subset is one of the coolest cards in the set,” Schwartz says. “We first introduced it in last year’s program, and we are continuing it here with a new design. We saw some produced cards on social and the colors and Chrome look great.”

Everything ties back to the same goal that drives every Bowman release: making something better. Through a mix of nostalgia, experimentation, and a constant focus on the player, 2026 Bowman Baseball continues that progression, offering a product that feels both familiar and of the moment.
