Ripped: What was the spark that kicked off the overall look for the Mickey & Friends MLB Home Jersey Set insert?

Kenn James: The goal was to merge the worlds of baseball and Disney into a single presentation that feels authentic to both. We wanted to create something that honored the traditions and visual language of baseball cards while celebrating the timeless appeal and personality of Disney’s iconic characters.

How did you make sure each character’s personality came through while keeping the set visually connected?

Last year, each character was featured in three poses — fielding, pitching, and hitting. This year, we introduced a fourth pose: sliding into a base. A major focus was making sure each character’s unique personality came through in those movements while maintaining a cohesive look across the set.

For example, Goofy’s fielding pose has the ball teetering on the tip of his glove, and his slide shows him reaching the bag with just one pointed finger. Donald Duck brings a bit more intensity, whether he’s on the mound or in the batter’s box. Mickey Mouse, meanwhile, naturally wears a big smile whether he’s fielding, hitting, or sliding. Those small details helped make each character feel true to themselves.

Was there one character that ended up being more challenging — or more fun — to design than expected?

Goofy was definitely the most fun to work on. His personality lends itself to exaggerated movement and visual comedy, which gave us a lot of opportunities to create dynamic and entertaining baseball poses.

Which card in the set best represents the vision you had when you started the project?

Mickey Mouse’s new sliding pose best captures the vision for the set. It combines the playful spirit that fans have loved about the character for generations with the action and energy that Topps has been capturing on baseball cards for decades. It’s a perfect blend of Disney storytelling and baseball excitement.
