Designing Topps Chrome® Cactus Jack Astrovision
One of the most talked-about chase cards in Topps Chrome Cactus Jack Basketball is Astrovision, a bold and colorful case hit that immediately separates itself from traditional Chrome inserts. Designed to bring the creative energy of Travis Scott’s Cactus Jack universe into The Hobby, Astrovision blends basketball imagery with surreal, tropical, and space-age visuals to create one of the product’s most distinctive cards.
Astrovision is a premium case-hit insert in 2025-26 Topps Chrome Cactus Jack Basketball. Inspired by Travis Scott’s Cactus Jack universe, the card combines basketball imagery with vibrant colors, surreal landscapes, and futuristic visuals. Designed through collaboration between Topps and the Cactus Jack creative team, Astrovision serves as one of the product’s biggest chase cards.
To learn more about the inspiration and design process behind the insert, we interviewed Topps Associate Product Manager Max Egenolf, who shared insight into how Astrovision evolved from concept to one of the product’s premier chase cards.
Ripped: What was the original inspiration behind Astrovision, and how did the concept first come together within the Cactus Jack product?
Egenolf: The inspiration behind Astrovision was to create a case hit that felt authentic to the world of Cactus Jack while still fitting naturally within a basketball trading card product. From the beginning, the goal was to design something that collectors would immediately recognize as special — a card that captured the spirit of the collaboration and delivered a memorable pull experience.
The design team started by taking key visual elements from the base card design and expanding them into something larger and more ambitious. By building upon the established aesthetic of the set, they were able to create a premium chase card that feels connected to the broader product while standing apart as its own unique collectible.
What elements of the Cactus Jack brand or Travis Scott’s creative vision were most important to capture in the design?
One of the biggest priorities was color. Much of the visual language associated with Cactus Jack leans toward a more understated aesthetic, and Astrovision provided an opportunity to introduce bold, vibrant colors in a way that felt impactful and fresh.
The design team wanted the players to remain the focal point while surrounding them with an environment that felt larger than life. The oversized basketball hoop in the background, combined with vivid color treatments and immersive scenery, helped create a card that feels different from anything else in the set while remaining true to the creative energy of the Cactus Jack brand.

How did you balance the established identity of Topps Chrome with the more experimental visual language of Astrovision?
The balance came through close collaboration between the Topps design team and the Cactus Jack creative team.
The Cactus Jack designers first established the visual direction through the base card designs, providing a strong foundation for the product’s overall look and feel. From there, the Topps designers took recognizable elements from those cards and transformed them into a premium case-hit concept.
That collaborative process allowed Astrovision to push creative boundaries while still maintaining the quality, finish, and collectibility that fans expect from Topps Chrome. The result is an insert that feels innovative without losing its connection to the rest of the product.
When developing Astrovision, were there specific references from music, fashion, art, or popular culture that helped shape the final direction?
The final design draws from a mix of influences that align closely with the broader Cactus Jack universe. Astrovision combines basketball imagery with tropical environments, surreal visual elements, and futuristic, space-age aesthetics.
Those influences come together to create a dreamlike atmosphere that feels both familiar and otherworldly. The card reflects the intersection of sports, culture, and creativity that has become a hallmark of the Cactus Jack brand.
What were some of the biggest challenges in translating the Astrovision concept into a trading card while still making it feel premium and collectible?
Finding a way to authentically bring Travis Scott’s “Cactus World” into the basketball trading card space.
The team wanted Astrovision to resonate with both collectors and fans of the Cactus Jack brand. That meant creating a design that captured the unique visual identity of the collaboration while still delivering the premium look and feel collectors expect from a case hit. Every design element needed to contribute to that balance, ensuring the card felt both artistic and highly collectible.
What details or design choices do you think collectors might overlook at first glance but should take a closer look at when they pull an Astrovision card?
One of the most overlooked aspects of the design is the environmental artwork featured throughout the background. The trees and surrounding landscape help establish the atmosphere of the card and play a significant role in bringing the Cactus World concept to life.
Collectors should also pay close attention to the color treatments surrounding those elements. The layering of colors throughout the design creates depth and movement, adding another dimension to the card beyond the player image itself.
Where does Astrovision fit within the larger story of Topps Chrome Cactus Jack Basketball?
Astrovision was always intended to be a chase card, which is why it was designed as a case hit. The goal was to create something that collectors would immediately identify as one of the product’s premier pulls.
From its premium design execution to its immersive artwork, Astrovision was built to stand out. It serves as one of the defining visual statements within Topps Chrome Cactus Jack Basketball and represents the creativity and ambition behind the collaboration as a whole.
