One of the Biggest Hits of the Year
2025 Topps Chrome Football was without question one of the most anticipated releases in The Hobby this year. Since release day, the hits have been coming fast and furious, and huge pulls of new Chrome Football cards keep popping up across social media and around the world.
One of the biggest chase cards in the entire set was unearthed on release day, and the story is the stuff of Hobby dreams. It’s the tale of a family who found the highly coveted 2025 Topps Chrome Football Josh Allen NFL Honors Gold Shield Autograph 1-of-1.
The Josh Allen NFL Honors Gold Shield Autograph 1-of-1 is one of the rarest and most coveted cards in 2025 Topps Chrome Football. Featuring an authentic NFL shield worn by the 2024 MVP, this gem was pulled on release day by a family opening packs together. The card and the pull highlight both the premium nature of Chrome Football and the excitement of unforgettable Hobby moments.
Preparing for Launch Day
“My grandson Dylan knew that Chrome Football was coming out on Wednesday, and sure enough, he sent me a text at 6:30 in the morning to remind me,” Robbin, grandmother of three, told RIPPED. “And so, we actually got to the shop at 8:00.”
The shop — Hot Corner in Mesa, Arizona — didn’t open for another hour, but Robbin stuck it out.

Robbin, with husband Jeff and son Billy, chose three boxes for the family to rip. “We weren’t going to open anything ’til the kids were off school,” she explained. The two younger grandkids — Harrison, 12 and Stephen, 10 — got to go down to the shop, where Robbin and Billy grabbed three smaller boxes for the kids.
The craziness was about to unfold.
A (New) Family Hobby
On one hand, you could call it a bit of beginner’s luck. After all, Robbin’s grandkids only started collecting four months ago. But, it wouldn’t be fair to say it was new to everyone. It started when Dylan, 15, was over for a visit.
“We collected for years, and we started talking with Dylan about cards,” Robbin said. The grandparents unveiled tubs of old cards, and even some unopened vintage wax. Soon after, the grandkids were hooked. “Really quickly, we were back in, checking out card shops, going to card shows.”

While much of the collection is baseball, football has emerged as the clear top sport for the family in The Hobby this time around. “We’re huge Steelers fans,” said Robbin. The grandkids all agree: For them, when it comes to sports cards, football is number one.
Pulling the Ultimate Chase Card
“We waited on the big boxes until my husband got back,” Robbin explained. “We were opening them up. I handed one to my son and each of my grandchildren. I told them, take a deep breath. Go slow, there’s only so many packs.”
When 10-year old Stephen opened his first pack, he found something truly special. “I had this cool card,” he said. “I said to everyone, ‘Hey guys, this one looks like a ticket!’ And everyone just started screaming. I was so overwhelmed, at first I was just like, this is a cool Josh Allen card!”
Dylan, the oldest grandson, was stunned to see what Stephen had in his hands. “I had no clue until I got closer and saw the Gold Shield and knew what it was immediately,” he told RIPPED. “I saw the card up close and it was just, no way — we actually hit it.”
The NFL Honors Gold Shield cards are among the top chases in The Hobby. Modeled after the MLB and NBA Logoman programs, these ultra-rare cards feature NFL Gold Shields, worn by 2024 NFL Award winners throughout the 2025 season.
Robbin explained the aftermath: “When they realized what it was, Harrison got the hard case and protected the card. Dylan called down to Phil at Hot Corner, reading off what the redemption said, and he asked us to come down to the shop.”

Hot Corner, Huge Hit
“We could not believe what they had pulled,” Phil Rinella of Hot Corner Sports Cards told RIPPED. “It was like looking at a Willie Wonka golden ticket.”
For Phil, The Hobby is also a family affair. He took over a card shop with his father in 2003. In December of 2025, Rinella was able to acquire the suite just north of the original Hot Corner location. “We’ve more than doubled in size,” he said. “It was a long nine-week renovation where we sold our products out of the back of a U-Haul until the renovation was complete.”

The reopening proved a turn of good fortune for Robbin and her family. “For 23 years, we’ve run a weekly in-house 50-card auction on Saturdays,” Phil explained. “After the renovation, we put on a Grand Re-opening Auction about a Month ago. Robbin and her family attended and had a great time. I announced that Topps Chrome was coming, that it would be limited, and to come early on release day. Sure enough, they were there, and the rest is history.”
But, of course, the rest was more than just history. “This had never happened to us before,” Robbin said, “and Phil and the shop were just so helpful with taking us through the process. They’ve really been wonderful, texting, calling, making sure we know they’re there if there’s anything they can do. They’ve been amazing.”
For Hot Corner, the hit brought attention. “We received many comments and reactions from the social media posts about the card,” Phil said. “New customers and regulars were in utter astonishment that the card was pulled from a box sold here. My phone was going crazy all day and night with texts and calls.”
The shop took time to explain all the options available to the family, who have decided to put the card up for auction through Fanatics Collect.
The Hobby Journey Continues
While the rare Josh Allen card will be put up for auction, the family’s journey in The Hobby hardly stops there.
“We hit an Ultra Violet Jayden Daniels and a Steelers Kaleb Johnson out of 25, signed,” Dylan said. Other hits included a Matthew Stafford auto and a Jaxson Dart gold numbered to 50.
As of right now, these will serve as centerpieces of their new collection. “Unless they see something they really like,” Robbin said. “Then they might use them in a trade.”
