Discussing the Exciting Release with Collectors
With the highly anticipated release of 2025 Topps Chrome Football finally here, we at RIPPED took the opportunity to hear from some people in The Hobby about the new set, the tradition of Topps Chrome Football, and what they’re looking forward to from the release.
For longtime Chrome collectors, the return of the brand to the NFL is both a new start and a nod to an iconic past. For newcomers, it’s a great place to start a gridiron collection.
Collector excitement is mounting for the return of 2025 Topps Chrome Football, with Hobby loyalists preparing their PCs for the new set’s vibrant parallels, iconic rookie autographs, and new inserts like Kaiju and Prem1ere Patches. The release blends nostalgia with innovation, appealing to both longtime Chrome fans and new collectors.
RIPPED: What are you most excited about for 2025 Topps Chrome Football?
Matt Brier, collector: Topps Chrome has always been about the color popping off the card, and looking at the 2025 checklist, there is no shortage of color. For my money, Gold /50, Red /5 are the standards. And, if you’re lucky enough, who doesn’t love the return of a Topps Football Superfractor?
I am beyond ecstatic for the brand new release of Topps Chrome Football. I will be at the front door of Wheelhouse Cards on release day. The excitement this brings me reminds me of being a kid waiting out front of GameStop for the Call of Duty and Halo releases!
Beau Fennick, collector: I am most excited for the new Prem1ere Patches and Ultra Violet case hits.
Joseph Gorrin, Cognizant Cards and Collectibles: The brand recognition, combined with updated designs, rookie classes, and modern parallels, brings a ton of energy back into football collecting. It’s a product that both new and experienced collectors can get behind.
RIPPED: What Chase cards and Inserts stand out?
Beau: The new Kaiju insert is one of my favorite-looking cards from 2025 Topps Chrome Football. I’m very excited to chase those. Of course, I also like the NFL Gold Shield cards, too.
Joseph: From what we’ve seen, collectors are going to be chasing low-numbered parallels, rookie autos, and case-hit inserts. Chrome always delivers visually, so I expect high demand around color matches, Refractors, and short prints tied to top rookies and star veterans.
Matt: Gold Shield, the Tecmo Bowl autographs, and color match Refractors are what I will be pursuing. Have you seen that Saquon Barkley Gold Shield? It’s absolutely disgusting! On-card autographs of legends I also love, they bring me back to my childhood.
RIPPED: Do you have a favorite NFL team? How does that impact your collecting journey?
Matt: I was raised outside of Philly, in an Eagles household, so it starts and stops with the Birds. I tend to find cool Philadelphia sports imagery and relics to share with my dad. But he has a high bar to be impressed — a typical Philadelphia fan.
Beau: My favorite teams are all Pittsburgh. I’m a regular at Steel City Collectibles. On the one hand, If I come by a Pittsburgh card, I’ll usually collect it. But overall, it doesn’t impact what I open in The Hobby or what I’m chasing as a collector.
RIPPED: What Players are you chasing in 2025 Topps Chrome Football?
Beau: I’m most excited to collect Cam Ward and Jaxson Dart rookie autos in the new Chrome Football; they are two of my favorite QBs in this past year’s draft.
Matt: From my youth, I’m chasing Adrian Peterson, Randy Moss, LT, Chris Johnson, and so many more. From a current-day perspective, I want to find Saquon, Josh Allen, Justin Jefferson, Cooper DeJean, Devonta Smith, and any other current Birds!
RIPPED: What do you think The Hobby is excited about when it comes to 2025 Topps Chrome Football?
Matt: The chase is everything to most of the collectors I know. I just learned about the Kaiju inserts. Those will be a huge chase in shops and break rooms. Not for nothing, I have never seen such a loaded release that is accessible to both experienced and newer collectors alike.
Beau: I feel like The Hobby is most excited about chasing those iconic Topps Chrome rookie autos.
RIPPED: How did you get into The Hobby?
Joseph: It started with a passion for collecting at a young age. What began as buying, trading, and ripping packs turned into building relationships and eventually creating a full-scale business around it.
Beau: Watching a lot of celebrities and people who are big in The Hobby on social media open some cool products, it made me really want to start collecting and chasing my favorite players.
Matt: I was a collector like many kids but really got back into it when Wheelhouse, a local card shop, opened near me. Being a salesman by trade, I like to unlock value in newer wax, color match parallels, and jersey match serial numbers.
I have built extensive complete rainbows and held some amazing cards in my PC by leveling up and reaching agreement with other experienced collectors. The true thrill I get from The Hobby is that point where the deal is struck.
RIPPED: What advice do you have for new collectors?
Joseph: For new collectors: start with what you enjoy. Don’t chase everything. Focus on players, teams, or sets you like. Learn the market, be patient, and understand that value can fluctuate.
For those getting into Topps Chrome Football, it’s a premium product, so make sure you understand the checklist, parallels, and chase structure before diving in. Whether you’re ripping boxes or joining breaks, have a strategy and know what you’re chasing.
Matt: It’s a hobby and should be enjoyable. If you like Star Wars, collect Star Wars. If you want to treat cards as an investment, look before you leap. If you want to hold the sealed wax as your collection, go for it. If you want to grade your childhood cards, talk to a trusted Hobby resource in your community. I could have saved a lot of time and budget had I raised a hand a little earlier on. There is no rush, experience The Hobby wisely.
Beau: Start small and open blasters, hangers, and mega boxes, because you can hit the same cards out of them that you can out of Hobby Boxes. If you want to start collecting a new sport, research more about the types of products that sport offers, and chase the bigger players in that sport first.
