Orioles Star’s Cards to Collect
Baltimore battled for the MLB’s longest Rookie of the Year drought title until 2023, second only to the Padres. Then came Gunnar Henderson, an Alabama native who traveled eastward only to become B-More’s first unanimous AL Rookie of the Year and rook to win the coveted honor since Gregg Olson in 1989. The 2019 second-rounder exceeded expectations and boosted the franchise’s reputation for birthing stars straight outta their farm system. Some esteemed alumni include Brooks Robinson and Cal Ripken Jr., as well as Henderson’s teammate and emerging star, Adley Rutschman, man that group. Given Gunnar Henderson’s role in the Orioles’ recent success, and the increasing popularity of his trading cards, we couldn’t resist sharing a list of some of the top AL Rookie of the Year’s rookie cards and more. Check it out.

2023 MLB TOPPS NOW® Card #738 Gunnar Henderson
When Henderson stepped to the plate in the eighth inning of Baltimore’s October 20, 2023, matchup vs. Oakland, he needed just a single to become the first rookie in franchise history to hit for the cycle. The star infielder instead belted a double and became the youngest player in the organization’s history to collect four extra-base hits in the same game (22 years and 52 days). He also became the first Major League player to hit at least two doubles, a triple and a homer in the same game since David Wright in 2013.

Against the Royals on June 11, 2023, Henderson crushed a 462-foot bomb that left the ballpark and bounced into a general store’s window. The homer marked the longest homer to ever land on Baltimore’s Eutaw Street and fell just 3-feet shy of the stadium record set by Ken Griffey Jr. during the 1993 Home Run Derby.
