Young Star’s Cards to Collect

The 2023 campaign was a dream with no nightmares (shoutout to Meek Mill) for Carter, the Rangers’ second-round pick in 2020, and his Texas squad. Not only did the Rangers lift their first World Series trophy in organization history, but Carter, the 21-year-old who only played in 23 regular-season games, came through in the clutch, carving out an unexpectedly massive role in the postseason and signing his name next to a host of greats in the process despite spending the majority of his year in the Minors. As his career trends upward, so do his trading cards. So what did we do? We list his top trading cards tracing Carter’s “first” campaign.

With a runner on third and one out in the sixth inning of the Rangers’ Sept. 10, 2023 meeting with the A’s, Carter stepped to the plate and popped out to center. His teammate then tagged up and sprinted home, helping Carter tally his first Big League RBI. Topps captured the moment, which swiftly sold out on the flagship website.

The 2023 MLB TOPP NOW® Card #958 Evan Carter Gold is a one-of-one. As of this post, it’s on the market and might take a deep dive into the ole’ pockets. But that’s the cost of a rare card, capturing a rare moment. In Game 1 of the Rangers’ 2023 Wildcard Series against Tampa Bay, Carter took his seat as the youngest player in organization history to reach base at least four times in his postseason debut. See below for more clutch exploits.

In the second inning against Tampa Bay in Game 2 of the AL Wildcard, Carter went yard hard, recording his first postseason homer and becoming the youngest Rangers player to notch an HR in a playoff game (21 years and 36 days) and the second rookie to do so since 2010. Topps commemorated the moment and slapped an on-card auto on this bad boy, increasing its value dramatically. With only 99 available, it sold out like McDonald’s McFlurries on the Topps website. Good luck catching it on the secondary market.

With the Rangers clinging to a 2-0 lead and one runner on vs. in-state rival Houston in the ALCS, Astros star Alex Bregman stepped into the box and jacked a pitch to the wall. Instead of wilting in the moment, Carter did his best Superman impression, throwing on his cape and robbing Bergman at the wall. Texas eventually won the contest and the battle of I-75. Another crucial Carter moment was captured during one of the most epic postseason runs by a rookie in MLB history.

Legendary manager Bruce Bochy inserted Carter into the third spot in the lineup before Game 1 of Texas’ World Series tilt with Arizona. The change led to Carter becoming the youngest player to hit third in Game 1 of the World Series (21 years and 59 days) since Mickey Mantle (20 years and 347 days) in 1952. The baby-faced Carter rewarded Bochy by tallying two extra-base hits, making him the youngest player in World Series history behind Andruw Jones and Juan Soto. What a list of names.
