Alcaraz-Djokovic Will Have Rematch
After a straight sets victory for Novak Djokovic over Lorenzo Musetti on Friday, both Wimbledon finals are now set. On the men’s side, it’s the matchup most fans both wanted and expected, as Djokovic returns to the championship round for a rematch against 21-year-old phenom Carlos Alcaraz. Alcaraz lost a first-set tiebreaker to Daniil Medvedev in his semifinal but won the next three sets comfortably. The prospect of a Djokovic-Alcaraz final is mouthwatering. Last year’s edition was an incredible five-set marathon won by Alcaraz, which included one of the greatest single games in the history of tennis — a 26-minute, 32-point battle in the middle of the third set that swung the match in Alcaraz’s favor. Djokovic currently leads the head-to-head series, 3-2.
On the women’s side, seventh-seeded Jasmine Paolini has continued her incredible season, following up a French Open runner-up finish with a finals berth. Paolini lost at Roland Garros to world No. 1 Iga Świątek but will look to win her first grand slam title against 31st-seeded Barbora Krejčíková. Her lower seed hardly reflects her status in the women’s game, as injuries have held Krejčíková back. She has been ranked as high as No. 2 in the world. Krejčíková has been brilliant throughout Wimbledon, dropping only two sets. She won the French Open in 2021 and will be looking for her first-ever Wimbledon title.
The women’s final will be played on Saturday, with the men taking center stage on Sunday. The first serves for both matches are set for 9 a.m. ET.
