The Paris 2024 Olympic Games ended with a bang for Team USA. The Americans finished with 126 medals, with China second at 91. Three team wins on the final weekend helped tie China with 40 golds. The men’s basketball team, led by breathtaking shooting from Steph Curry, held off Victor Wembanyama and France 98-87. Head coach Steve Kerr said, “It’s right up there with all of the greatest games of his career … in Paris against France for a gold medal. This is storybook stuff.”

Team USA Women’s Basketball matched the men, taking home gold after a closer-than-expected win over France. Star A’ja Wilson helped save the Americans with 19 points. “I’m so proud of the resilience my team showed,” she said. France scored a late bucket down three, but France forward Gabby Williams’ shot was just inside the three-point line, giving the Americans a 67-66 win.

Team USA Women’s Soccer avenged their disappointing World Cup with a deserved 1-0 win over Marta and Brazil. Mallory Swanson scored the only goal of the game. “Tonight, we have a gold medal, but it doesn’t mean it ends there,” said new head coach Emma Hayes. “We are just at the beginning.”

The closing ceremonies tipped the cap to Los Angeles, host of the 2028 games, as Tom Cruise scaled the stadium with a Hollywood-style stunt before exiting the Stade de France with the Olympic Flag.
