Roger Staubach’s RC & More
If there were a way actually to measure it, Roger Staubach would rank among the all-time greatest in the fictional “Ice in Veins” intangibles stat. He led Dallas to four league championships, won two, and earned the nicknames “Roger the Dodger” and “Captain Comeback” for a reason. He won 75% of the games he played for Dallas and was one of his era’s most prolific rushing quarterbacks. If it weren’t for the stout defenses of the 1970s bringing down the stats of just about every quarterback, and if injuries and concussions didn’t shorten his career, who knows what records he would still hold? Of course, after 11 nearly-perfect seasons, he retired at the top of his game as the best player at his position, then became a 1985 inductee into the Hall of Fame, so he’s checked every box you need to be an undeniable GOAT.
To celebrate the clutch quarterback who threw the first Hail Mary in league history, we look back at Topps Football’s past to look at some iconic sets from the ’70s, as well as the new Topps Football Motif and Topps Composite Football sets, which update this classic player with a new collectible look that you need to collect.
