Chris Webber was one of the most famous athletes in America before he even reached his twenty-first birthday. The best player and leader of the Fab Five, perhaps the most famous recruiting class in American college sports history, Webber led the University of Michigan to back-to-back national championship games as a freshman and sophomore.
While his last game for the Wolverines ended in infamy, when Webber called a phantom timeout, and the Wolverines lost to North Carolina, Webber and co. were cultural sensations. Webber was one of the most highly-anticipated rookies of his generation. The undoubted number 1 overall pick in 1993, Webber took home Rookie of the Year to begin what would be a Hall of Fame career.
A remarkably skilled, silky smooth big man, with great handles and great vision, who ran the floor with the best of them, Webber was part of some of his era’s most exciting teams. From his early Kings’ partnership with Jason Williams, to his best Sacramento group, whom Webber led to the Conference Finals in 2002, Webber’s Kings were a valiant opponent for the Shaq and Kobe Lakers, losing in three straight playoffs, all of which would end in Lakers championships.
