Doctor Collectible Pulls Cards with Former MLB Pitcher Ryan Webb
When I first moved to Atlanta fifteen years ago, Dave’s Sports Cards was the first card shop I visited. It felt fitting to stop by again, rekindling old memories of that initial visit. It was just another quiet weekday when I dropped in to catch up with Dave. My friend Chris Sampson had joined me, and we were reminiscing about old card pulls when the door opened, and in walked Ryan Webb.
Ryan, a former MLB pitcher who played for the San Diego Padres, Miami Marlins, Baltimore Orioles, Cleveland Indians, and Tampa Bay Rays, was looking for some 2021 Topps Bowman Draft cards. From the way he and Dave greeted each other, it was clear they were already well-acquainted. Dave, ever the gracious host, introduced us, and we all got to talking about baseball—Ryan’s career, the state of the game, and, of course, the thrill of collecting cards.
When Ryan found out there were only two packs of 2021 Topps Bowman Draft left in the store, we decided to rip them together. As luck would have it, Ryan’s own card was part of that set, though he admitted he’d never actually pulled his card in person before. The idea of finding his own card right there in the shop added an extra layer of excitement to the moment.
With the last pack in our hands, we decided to try our luck—what collectors call “last pack magic.” None of us could believe what happened next. From that very last pack, Ryan pulled his own card. The disbelief, the joy, the sheer magic of that moment was priceless. We couldn’t stop laughing and celebrating—it was a story none of us would forget.
