1977 Topps Star Wars #2 See-Threepio and Artoo-Deetoo
It shouldn’t be surprising to see the two most famous Star Wars droids on this list. C-3PO and R2-D2 share the second card in the original Topps Star Wars series – a high placement appropriate for their beloved status in the fandom. Today, fans might find it curious to see the droids’ names spelled out phonetically, but that was quite common in early Star Wars books and materials.
1977 Topps Star Wars #6 Ben (Obi-Wan) Kenobi
Obi-Wan Kenobi’s rookie card shows Sir Alec Guinness in his Tatooine garb. It also features both his real name and cover name. Though the character is rarely called “Ben” anymore, Luke refers to him as such throughout the original movie. As such, “Obi-Wan” appears in parentheses, and “Ben” is the main name given. PSA 10 cards of Ben (Obi-Wan) have been in high demand lately.
1977 Topps Star Wars #4 Space Pirate Han Solo
Han Solo’s RC Star Wars card was number four in the original 1977 Topps Star Wars series. The art shows Harrison Ford wielding a stormtrooper’s blaster on the Death Star during the crew’s daring escape. Though he’s really more of a smuggler, this early card describes Han as a “space pirate” – language that George Lucas and other cast members used to describe him in promotion of the first film.
1977 Topps Star Wars #5 Princess Leia Organa
Before anyone knew that Leia Organa was Leia Skywalker, she made her Topps debut. Carrie Fisher appears on the portrait card in the rebel base on Yavin 4, carefully overseeing the battle against the Death Star.
1977 Topps Star Wars #1 Luke Skywalker
It should come as no surprise that the first card in the first Topps Star Wars set is also arguably the top card on this list. Here, Luke Skywalker appears in his stormtrooper disguise. This is also generally the most sought-after card on this list, so keep your eyes peeled for Luke Skywalker’s rookie card.
