Completing A Top Hoops Chase
2025-26 Topps Chrome Basketball has proven to be one of the biggest releases of the year. The landmark Chrome set features a loaded rookie class and an array of chase cards from the NBA’s best players. At the top of the list is none other than LeBron James, who continues to excel in his 23rd season in the league.
Last December, LeBron’s highly coveted Chrome Superfractor Autograph 1-of-1 was pulled by Best Card Shop out of Plainfield, Indiana. Here’s how it all went down.
2025-26 Topps Chrome Basketball is one of the year’s most-chased NBA card releases thanks to its chromium finish, deep rookie class, and rare parallels. The ultimate chase for many collectors is the Superfractor 1-of-1. A huge moment in The Hobby came when a LeBron James Topps Chrome Superfractor Autograph 1-of-1 redemption was pulled during a Best Card Shop break.
The card was pulled in a Pick Your Player case break, in which the LeBron spot was won for $143. Best Card Shop owner Nick Becvar told us the story.
“Zach is the breaker that pulled it,” Becvar said. “While he was grabbing the next stack of cards to flip through, it actually cut to the redemption and he had to quickly cover it up to keep the suspense. He happened to catch that it was LeBron, but had no idea it was the Superfractor. Upon reveal, we knew we pulled a big one!”
Before the card had even been pulled, there had already been a $500,000 bounty placed on it.
Becvar got the news when he was on the way to the shop, and he immediately reached out to the lucky collector. But things didn’t stop there.
“I remember the non-stop messages from our friends and collector community,” Becvar said, “both shop and breaks, for the next 48 hours congratulating us. We have built our shop based on community, and having this outpouring toward us felt incredible.”
The shop, open for almost three years now, has nearly 3,000 square feet of retail space with an open concept and community vibe — a place people can come hang out with their friends and family, rip packs, and enjoy The Hobby together.
“The breaks have been going for six years,” Becvar explained. “What started as just myself out of my basement doing every bit of work has grown rapidly into a six-person, very tight-knit family of employees supporting The Hobby in the greater Indianapolis area, as well as worldwide through our breaks.
The collector who claimed the card is UPS driver in Cottage Grove, WI. “As an adult I decided to jump back in during COVID, and I instantly fell in love with The Hobby again,” he told RIPPED. “I like to join breaks, as they give you a cheaper chance at getting high-priced cards of my favorite player.”
That player is LeBron James.
“I’ve been a LeBron fan since seeing his high school games televised on ESPN,” he explained. “Wherever LeBron went, that became my favorite team. So any time I join breaks, I’m trying to grab the Lakers or the Lebron spot.”
Even though he was already in on LeBron, taking home the Superfractor was a huge shock. “The crazy part is I didn’t actually see it live,” the collector said. “I had just gotten off work and picked up my son when we started to listen to the break while driving home. I think it was four boxes in when I got to the gas station by my house, and for some reason, my Internet always cuts out when I stop at this gas station. So my YouTube froze.”
“When I got home, I had an eBay message saying call me asap. So I called the number and it was Nick. He told me I had just hit the LeBron Superfractor. I was in shock. Nick and I are working on possibly getting it graded for authenticity, and then he’ll be sending it to me. As far as the actual LeBron card goes, as much as I’d love to have it as a Holy Grail piece to keep, I can’t pass up this type of chance to provide for my family. So I haven’t made a final decision, but using the Fanatics Collect auction house is what I’m leaning towards doing right now.”

While the card is truly next level, it’s not the first time a LeBron card came in handy.
“Another funny story is I had just sold my favorite LeBron card so that I could get my son really good seats for the Lakers vs. Pacers game on March 25th in Indiana as a birthday gift, which is close to Best Card Shop. Crazy coincidence. So now we’ll be stopping by Nick’s shop to say hello when we go to Indiana for the game.”
