This was especially true for Alan Shearer who went on to win the tournaments golden boot despite going into the competition on the back of a 12-game goal (2 year) goal drought for England. UEFA Euro 1996\u2122 was also famous for birthing the best football song ever: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=RJqimlFcJsM\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=RJqimlFcJsM\">Three Lions (Football&#8217;s Coming Home)<\/a> By The Lightning Seeds ft. They only entered the tournament as a result of Yugoslavia&#8217;s disqualification (due to the dissolution of the Yugoslav state).
