Seeking its first medal since the 2008 Olympic Games, USA men’s gymnastics leaned on an unassuming specialist from the team.

Stephen Nedoroscik used his extraordinary talent on the pommel horse to help the Americans capture the bronze on Monday at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Just before his routine, the 25-year-old took off his Clark Kent-esque glasses and became a real-life superhero in the matter of a couple minutes.

The Worchester, Massachusetts, native dazzled the crowd as he nailed his routine in the team event to secure USA’s place on the medal stand. After sticking the landing, Nedoroscik ran out to his jubilant teammates and coach to celebrate.

Every four years, unsung heroes emerge during the Games and become overnight sensations. Nedoroscik is the latest case for Team USA.

Nedoroscik scored a 14.866 in the event, as the American finished with a team score of 257.793. World powerhouses Japan (259.594) and China (259.062) took home the gold and silver medals, respectively.

The U.S. men’s gymnasts will be back on the mat later this week for individual competitions.

As of Tuesday morning on Eastern Time, Team USA is leading all countries with 20 medals (three gold, eight silver, and nine bronze). The Americans will be able to build its medal count with the Olympics running through Aug. 11.
