Tom Hanks may be the most famous member of the “Five-Timer Club” (reserved for anyone who has hosted Saturday Night Live five or more times), but that might be down to the fact that he made the whole thing up. On December 8, 1990, Hanks hosted the show for the fifth time, becoming the seventh person to do so. During that episode, Hanks’ was “inducted” into the Five-Timers Club in a sketch feating Steve Martin, Elliot Gould, and Paul Simon (all of whom had also hosted five times), and the term stuck. When someone hits their fifth episode, they get a coronation in sketch form for the most prestigious honor given to a host. Let’s look at some of the show’s most memorable five-timers, their Garbage Pail Kids or Topps cards, and their greatest moments onstage at 30 Rock.
