The History of Topps in Tennis

The release of 2024 Topps Chrome Tennis marks the second entry in the Topps Chrome series, following the debut of Chrome Tennis in 2021. The 2021 debut set was built through a licensing agreement with the Tennis Hall of Fame and laid the foundation for Chrome’s continued success with tennis cards. 2021 Topps Chrome featured a series of Coco Gauff rookie cards that are today among the most covetable cards in tennis hobby history. The newly-released 2024 edition marks the first time a Topps set delivers a product licensed by the Professional Tennis Players Association. This group represents the Top 500 players in the ATP and WTA rankings. This has helped Topps Chrome expand the 2024 set with more base cards, inserts, and autos.

Who is Topps Chrome Tennis For?

Topps Chrome Tennis is ideal for collectors and fans chasing rookie cards of players before they break through on tour. Thanks to the deeper checklist built as a result of licensing changes, Topps Chrome Tennis offers cards of the game’s best, autos of current stars, and legends of the sport. It’s perfect for both seasoned collectors and newcomers to the hobby who are looking to invest in promising young talents, superstars, and legends.

Why Does Topps Chrome Tennis Matter?

Tennis is a sport built on talent, hard work, and personality. Look at Andre Agassi, Serena Williams, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic; modern tennis builds superstars. Topps Chrome Tennis captures this essence, featuring players who are on the verge of global superstardom, like Coco Gauff and Carlos Alcaraz, and those who aim to take their place at the top of the game, like Mirra Andreeva and Ben Shelton. Few sports do a better job of revering its history than tennis, and Topps Chrome Tennis pays homage to that with inserts like Grand Slam Champion and Captured, which feature some of the game’s great champions while honoring the sport’s unique set of trophies.

What Am I Chasing in 2024 Topps Chrome Tennis?

2024 Topps Chrome Tennis features rookie cards for youngsters Ben Shelton and Mirra Andreeva, who have each already made Grand Slam semifinals. Collectors can also chase a deep checklist of superstar players like Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz (in addition to a remarkable dual autograph entry signed by both rivals), as well as Coco Gauff and Iga Swiatek. Swiatek features in the short printed Patriotic Pride, while Gauff appears in the set’s rarest insert, the SSP debut of Game Set Match. 2024 Topps Chrome Tennis also features a phenomenal list of signers, including the four players mentioned above, and legends like Venus Williams, Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras, and Billie Jean King.

What’s New in 2024 Topps Chrome Tennis?

The debut of super short print Game Set Match is exciting. The cards feature a 90s-style die cut that was incredibly popular in that decade. Captured is a brand-new insert that is visually stunning and a testament to the game’s history. It features polaroid-style images of champions and the unique trophies they get to take home. Rare case hits include Game Set Match, Patriotic Pride, and Toppspin.

2024 Topps Chrome Tennis takes its place in the long and storied history of the Chrome brand. With a deeper-than-ever checklist, stunning new design, and spectacular chase cards, the set is making history of its own!
