No. 1-Ranked Rays will take on Red Sox
We are still a month and a half from the MLB postseason getting underway, but the 2025 spring training and surrounding events are already on the calendar.
MLB announced its schedule on Thursday, with the Cactus League having its first games on Feb. 20, 2025, and the Grapefruit League hitting the diamond the following day.
Along with the regular spring training schedule release, MLB will run Spring Breakout once again. After a successful inaugural event this past spring training, all 30 clubs will have their top prospects play in an exhibition game.
Spring Breakout will take place March 13-16 at sites in both Arizona and Florida. The two most intriguing matchups lead off the event on March 13. The Tampa Bay Rays — which have the top-ranked farm system in all of baseball, according to MLB Pipeline — will host the Boston Red Sox and their seventh-ranked system in Port Charlotte, Florida. The best individual players’ matchup right now looks to be between a pair of shortstops. Red Sox’s Marcelo Mayer, the fifth-ranked prospect in all of baseball, will square off against No. 6-ranked Carson Williams of the Rays.
The Los Angeles Dodgers boast the fifth-best farm system and will host the No. 8-ranked Chicago Cubs in Glendale, Arizona. So far, 95 players that participated in Spring Breakout 2024 have played in the majors this season. Of those players, 35 were ranked in MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 list.
