Orioles, Yankees Jockey for Playoff Spot
The MLB regular-season schedule will wrap up in just eight short weeks.
The league announced its postseason plans. Four best-of-three wild-card series for the American League and National League will get underway on Oct. 1, two days after the regular season ends.
The best-of-five divisional series for both leagues are slated to start on Oct. 5. The National League Championship Series will start on Oct. 14, while the American League Championship Series will have its first pitch the following day.
The 120th World Series is scheduled to get underway on Oct. 25. If a Game 7 is necessary to determine the World Series champion, it will be played on Nov. 2.
Every postseason game will be televised on either ABC, ESPN, ESPN 2, FOX/FS 1, or TBS.
The race to punch a ticket to the postseason could go down to the final days. The AL East currently has the tightest race is the Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees are tied with identical 65-45 records. Three of the final six games of the regular season will feature the Orioles at the Yankees.
The Houston Astros (56-52) and the Seattle Mariners (57-53) are in a dead heat atop the AL West. The Cleveland Guardians have the best record in baseball at 66-42. They have a six-game lead on the Kansas City Royals in the AL Central.
The Philadelphia Phillies have the best mark in the National League at 65-43. They have a six-game cushion on the Atlanta Braves in the NL East. The Los Angeles Dodgers (63-46) have a four and a half-game lead in the NL West on the San Diego Padres (59-51). The Milwaukee Brewers (61-47) are up five and a half games on the St. Louis Cardinals (56-53).
