Koa Peat Powers Arizona to Victory

Arizona has had some tourney troubles the past few years, but this year’s Wildcats seem determined to buck that trend. The problem was 2-seed Purdue standing between them and their first Final Four appearance since the iPod was invented.

The first half didn’t look great for Arizona, as they had a 7-point deficit to overcome, but a scoring spree and some hardnosed defense led by Freshman standout Koa Peat gave them a 15-point victory and a spot in the Final Four. Peat was also named the West Region MVP as the Arizona native put up 20 in the victory.

South Carolina Makes its Sixth Final Four

What’s better than a Final Four appearance? How about your sixth Final Four in a row? That’s what Agot Makeer and the South Carolina Gamecocks achieved this past Monday, and it’s a feat that’s only been accomplished one other time. The highly touted Freshman came off the bench and shot 8-14 from the field to give her a career high 18 points in a rout of 3-seed TCU.

Coach Dawn Staley’s top-seeded Gamecocks and Makeer have their work cut out for them against another legendary program in UConn this weekend. Can last year’s champs pull off a repeat?

UConn Captures the March Madness Magic

Speaking of UConn, their men’s team had an instant classic against the 1-seed Duke Blue Devils in the Elite 8. Facing a 19-point deficit at one point, UConn did the impossible. After they clawed their way back into the game, Duke was still up by 2, inbounding the ball with 10 seconds left, when the Huskies’ trap defense forced an errant pass.

UConn recovered and swung the ball around to freshman Braylon Mullins at the top of the key, who put up a 40-foot logo three to showcase the very definition of March Madness. The Huskies face 3-seed Illinois in the Final Four this weekend.

AP All-American forward Madison Booker was instrumental in the Texas Longhorns 77-41 victory over the Michigan Wolverines. Texas started off hot, only missing one of their shots in the first quarter, contributing to a big, early lead.

Booker put up a team-high 19 points with 7 boards during the rout of 2-seed Michigan, carrying the Lady Longhorns to the Final Four for their second year in a row, and fifth overall. The Longhorns face off against UCLA this Friday with a trip to the title game on the line.
