Yankee Star Hits Mark in 955th Game
The Judge has etched his name into the MLB record books.
New York Yankees superstar Aaron Judge made history on Wednesday night, becoming the fastest player to reach 300 career home runs.
The 32-year-old hit his milestone bomb — a Major League-leading 43rd of the season — in the eighth inning against the Chicago White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field.
Judge’s 300th home run came in his 955th game, shattering the record previously held by Hall of Famer Ralph Kiner at 1,087 games. There have been just 162 MLB players to ever reach the 300-home run plateau.
To magnify Judge’s accomplishment even more, he got his 300th homer in just 3,431 at-bats, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. It took Babe Ruth 3,831 plate appearances to get to 300; he finished with 714 career home runs. Mark McGwire (3,837) and Kiner (3,883) are next on the list.
“It’s a great achievement,” Judge told reporters after last night’s game. “I’ve been in the game a little while now, I guess. We’ve still got a long way to go. I was hoping it would come in a win.”
Judge, the Yankees’ first-round pick in 2013, has hit 181 home runs in the last four seasons.
Judge’s next major milestone is 400 home runs. Only 58 players in MLB history have reached that mark, including Judge’s teammate Giancarlo Stanton (422).
