The Top Red Sox Prospect Cards
One of the enduring appeals of baseball and The Hobby is the joy of watching young prospects develop into Major League stars. Every baseball fan and collector has that story about the phenom they saw in high school, college, or at the Minor League level, that they just knew was destined for greatness.
It’s no surprise then that prospect cards have evolved into some of the most coveted and valuable cards in The Hobby. Chief among them is the iconic Bowman Baseball brand, whose prospect cards can become some of the most important chase cards for a player.
2025 Bowman Baseball is the latest release to carry on the brand’s storied tradition of essential, defining, prospect cards. Today, we’re taking a look at Kristian Campbell, Roman Anthony, and Marcelo Mayer – a Big Three of Boston Red Sox prospects who stand to lead the future at Fenway, and whose Bowman cards have helped tell the story of their rise, introducing them to The Hobby as potential stars. These young phenoms help show us the fun in the chase for Who’s Next.
Kristian Campbell, 2B
Today, not only is Kristian Campbell the sixth-ranked prospect on MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 prospects, he’s also the starting second baseman for the Boston Red Sox. It’s a phrase often used to describe prospects, but in Campbell’s case, his rise has truly been meteoric. A fourth-round draft pick in 2023, Campbell did not even appear on Boston’s Top 30 prospect rankings in 2024 from Pipeline.
All he did in his first season as a pro? Move from High-A ball to the Red Sox Triple-A affiliate. Oh, he also took home Minor League Player of the Year by Baseball America. His MLB debut has been fantastic so far. Third among Red Sox hitters with a batting average of .313, Campbell is already one of the most exciting young players in the sport.
Campbell’s 2023 Bowman Draft Baseball card has been a hot chase this spring. The top 15 Campbell card sales of all-time, per Card Ladder, have come since February 2025.
The top Campbell sale of all-time is for a 2023 Bowman Draft Chrome Prospect Autographs Red Refractor /5 that fetched $6,600 on March 9, 2025. In June 2024, a version of the card sold for $3,000. In April 2024? The card went for $640.
Roman Anthony, OF
For all of Kristian Campbell’s early success, the expectations are even higher for 20-year-old outfielder Roman Anthony. MLB Pipeline’s 2nd-ranked 2025 prospect, behind only Roki Sasaki, Anthony had a great spring and has been fantastic so far this season at Triple-A Worcester. Anthony has an elite prospect grade from Pipeline of 65 (out of 80).
In a recent radio interview with WEEI, Red Sox President Sam Kennedy said of Anthony, “Well, we just keep walking by [Craig Breslow’s – Sox Chief Baseball Officer] office saying, ‘Come on, man. What are we waiting for? Let’s go!’ It’s so exciting to have guys who are literally knocking on the door and trying to play their way into the big league lineup.”
Selected in the 2022 MLB Draft, Anthony has been popular with talent evaluators for a while now, and The Hobby has followed suit. In September 2024, Anthony’s 2023 Bowman Baseball Chrome® Prospect Autographs Superfractor 1/1 sold for $62,500. Just in February, this Red Auto numbered to five sold for over $25,000. Since the release of 2023 Bowman Baseball, Card Ladder lists Anthony’s Rate of Growth at a staggering +267.32%.
Roman Anthony appeared in 2024 Bowman Draft Baseball as well, and was featured in a beautifully designed Bowman Spotlights short-printed insert. The 15-card offering features Anthony alongside other top prospects such as Jac Caglianone and Nick Kurtz. Anthony’s last sold for $76 on eBay.
Marcelo Mayer, SS
Of these three Red Sox prospects, it’s Marcelo Mayer who got the most hype the quickest. 2021 Collegiate Baseball’s National High School Player of the Year, Mayer was drafted fourth overall in 2021. By January 2023, he was the 10th ranked prospect in baseball, per Baseball America, and he began 2024 as the top-ranked prospect in the Red Sox system.
While injury has slowed his progress, Mayer, alongside his two fellow prospects, put together an excellent spring. His start to the season at Triple-A has been utterly dominant. Through 23 games, Mayer was hitting .280/.324/.548 with seven homers and 34 RBIs. His runs batted in are leading the minors. The second-best total? 21. As with Anthony, the question is not if, but when he will make his Major League debut.
Mayer’s 2021 Bowman Draft Baseball Chrome Draft Picks Autograph Superfractor is by far the biggest sale of the three prospects, selling for $132,000 in 2022. Card Ladder already registers 16 Mayer Bowman sales of $10,000 or more.
Mayer made an appearance in 2024 Bowman Baseball’s popular 1955 Anime case hit insert. The card features Marcelo as an anime character, jumping off a vintage television set (an homage to Bowman’s iconic 1955 run). The card is currently listed on eBay from $99.

Boston’s Big Three prospects have some clear advantages when it comes to The Hobby — elite talent, plenty of buzz, and a chance to star for one of the league’s flagship franchises at baseball’s iconic Fenway Park.
