Mike Ditka, Kellen Winslow, Tony Gonzalez, and Antonio Gates may have paved the way for the receiving tight end, but Rob Gronkowski created the new standard. After Bill Belichick and Tom Brady welcomed Gronk to New England in 2010, the league quickly saw the new prototype for what a tight end could (and should) be in modern-day football. Gronk had hands that could cradle a kitten, but he could just as easily mimic a bulldozer when he lowered his shoulder. He put maximum effort into every play – from run blocking to acrobatic catches in the end zone – and was an absolute joy to watch on the football field.
