Go Behind the Making of this Unique A & G Insert
The Start of a Beautiful Friendship
For the first time, Topps has released an insert celebrating the most prestigious canine competition on the planet, the Westminster Dog Show. “Topps has done cards featuring man’s best friend before, but this marks the first time we have partnered with the Westminster Kennel Club,” said Senior Art Director John Doldan.
For Doldan and the team at Topps, placing this unique collaboration within the Allen & Ginter universe was a natural fit. “Westminster Kennel Club was established in 1877, and has, for more than a century, held a significant place in American culture and history. So what better way for Topps to celebrate this union than to showcase the amazing dogs of Westminster in our beloved vintage product, Topps Allen & Ginter!”
A One-of-a-Kind Tradition
When you think of the Westminster Dog Show, sure, you think of adorable dogs parading around with their owners. But you also think of tradition, elegance, refinement, and history. This Allen & Ginter insert honors these elements. Said Doldan: “It was essential to capture the pomp and glamour of the show, in keeping with its traditions.”
“The colors are an essential part of this design. The Westminster Dog Show is synonymous with this combination of purple, gold, and eggshell.” This engaging color scheme has the dogs jumping right off your hand, just like in competition.
It’s About Personality
While the awards may go to the best-trained dogs, each year, some of the competitors leap into the hearts of spectators with their infectious efforts. These cards set out to capture the personalities of the world’s best pups. High-quality photography is used to capture the image that tells each dog’s story so collectors get a real idea of what makes each one so special.
Best In Show
Of course, the Westminster Dog Show is still a competition. This insert comes with a unique kind of relic to best showcase the dogs who separated themselves from the pack. Doldan said, “To win Best in Show is the highest honor for a dog. We were thrilled to be able to design relic cards featuring authentic Best in Show ribbons from the competition itself.”
A beautifully crafted insert built for collectors and dog lovers alike, 2024 Topps Allen & Ginter Stars of the Show is an insert you have to get your hands on.
